Storify the new year at any time

“Storify Your Year” Forget the Resolution. Write the Story.

We’ve all been there: by February, most New Year’s resolutions are distant memories. Traditional goals like “get fit” or “save money” feel like chores because they lack a soul.

Instead of making a list of demands, try Storifying your future with this three-step sensory method:

  1. Script the Experience: Write a list of experiences you want to have—but write them in the present tense. Don’t just type it; use your hands. Grab markers, crayons, or pens. Engaging your fine motor skills helps your brain “own” the goal.
  2. Activate the Senses: Go beyond the surface. What does this future smell like? What are the textures, the sounds, and the specific colors? Describe the feeling of being there.
  3. Find the Bridge: Once your “Future State” is visible, look for the stories that lead there. Which specific events or choices will act as the “chapters” taking you from today to that compelling future?

Place your story where you can see it daily. When a goal becomes a story, it becomes an aspiration you actually want to live.
