A metaprogram is a sophisticated kind of program that can reprogram itself as it runs. Given this definition, one could see onesself and one’s own thinking as a kind of metaprogram. Using a metaprogram as a metaphor is useful as it allows for conscious re-programming on-the-fly. Here are some ways in which you can access the metaprogram and develop your own self-programming skills:
Awareness of awareness – some spiritual traditions talk about the awareness of awareness itself – normally we are distracted by what is happening in the world both inside and outside of us. Awareness of awareness means that you have a insight of what you are aware of right now, in this moment. If you think about it, you are not only aware of this present moment, but your awarenss also includes awarenss of time, particularly the past and of the future.

If [friend name] doesn’t call THEN
Call [Friend]
IF no answer from [Friend]
Worry about [Friend]

Hacking Techniques
Virus Checker – alert popup – – what emotions do this patterned bring about typically? Does it make you feed bad, sad, guilty, fearful? What is the thoughtform preventing you from doing? What does it enable you to do? How is it useful? Imagine you have a petty tyrant character in your thoughtform who is giving you a telling-off for something you’ve done. What are the associated thoughts and feelings? If the feelings aren’t useful, start to MAKE CHANGES in the thoughtform such was shrinking the size of the petty tyrant, changing the colour of the petty tyrant. Make the voice of the petty tyrant shrill a squeaky. By doing these things, you are taking charge of the thoughtform and building new neuronal circuits – you are literally re-wiring your brain. Then give a thoughtform a new ending, a happy ending. Do you feel differently about the thoughtform and characters?
Awareness of feelings and emotions – this might sound flaky, but anger is not a particularly useful emotion – this is because what and who you’re angry with probably does not know nor care about your anger. Like Buddha once said, anger is like grasping a hot coal, it only hurts whomever is grasping it – and angering thoughtform or subroutine stimulates your neurohcemistry to feel the anger. This familiiliar thoughtform is actually reinforcing the papttern each time you have it – therefore consider the following hacking technique… Turn the anger outcome into a positive, happy outcome.
Expose yourself to new information. This could include art, music reading, talks and stories, painting or drawing something. making a model with clay. Whatever it is, it will put you in a space where oyu might experience differently
Expand your networks – go to an event you normally would not go to like an art exhibition, a funfair etc, and try connect with new people and their narratives.
Awareness of patterns in thinking and of the metaprogram This includes awareness of the patterned nature of yuor thinking including the familiar stories that you tell yourself and which give rise to certain emotions.
Developing programming and metaprogramming skills.
- This includes awareness of the patterned nature of yuor thinking including the familiar stories that you tell yourself and which give rise to certain emotions.
- Itentifying a particular patterned thought and then hacking it. This is achieved by observing the tough and its associated emotions. Then DO something with the though – for example,
- Language choice – the metaprogramhas it’s own language – a metalanguage. This metalanguage provides the that is used to build/program the metaprogram. If you’re reading this, your metalanguage uses English although the definitions of the words, phonics and syllables are not necessarily those that you will find in the dictionary.
