Leadership & Exco. Storytelling Skills

Group Sessions

Group sessions last one day going into the evening, preferably in a venue with a fireside around which stories can be told and shared under African skies at night. This is an experiential, facilitated session and the topic areas would be guided by the participants’requirements. We get participants to enjoy and have fun in the process – the right frame of mind to construct and tell stories. Topics we typically cover in these sessions include:

  • Listening skills – storytelling skills are improved through better listening skills
  • Storytelling skills – being interesting, body language, speaking to “group mind”, knowing your audience
  • Data, Information, Exformation and story – when to use story, when to use data
  • Leadership storytelling – the “stump story” and the “big story”
  • What makes stories powerful?
  • Roleplay and stepping out of the “traditional” role and into the role of storyteller
  • Leadership storytelling performance skills

participants tell self-constructed stories about typical corporate “events” to the most critical of audiences – their peers. These stories typicically include a mixture of good and not-so-good corporate news. Each performance is followed by a review. We would also use video to record the individual performances.

The session ends with a group performance followed by a fireside chat. This session also works to build a powerful sense of camaraderie within the leadership team.

Focused one-on-one leadership story coaching sessions

We provide one-on-one coaching for leadership designed to build upon growing/learning edges and provide useful, implementable feedback. We cover elements like active listening, constructing stories, telling stories, telling stories on camera and developing a unique presentation style. The participants’unique requirements are evaluated using an on-line assessment before the coaching begins. The coaching process is completed with a final assessment designed to highlight the learning & development that has occurred.

Our first and final session happen in the context of a professional video studio with green screen facilities. Participants get to keep these video materials to remind them of the process and as evidence of what the one-on-one sessions have achieved.
